Terms of Use

Who we are
Upside UK is a free service that curates positive news from across the United Kingdom. We are based in the United Kingdom and these terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
Acceptance of terms
By using Upside UK you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service. We may update these terms from time to time — we'll update the date above when we do.
What Upside UK is
Upside UK is a news aggregator. We collect publicly available RSS feeds from UK news publishers (such as the BBC, The Guardian, and others), run them through an automated classifier to identify positive and constructive stories, and present them in a single feed. We do not produce original journalism.
Stories are summarised using AI to help you decide whether to read the full article. Summaries are written in good faith but may not capture every nuance — always read the original source before forming strong opinions.
Third-party content
All stories link to and are owned by their original publishers. Copyright in each article remains with its respective publisher. We display headlines, summaries, and thumbnails for the purpose of directing you to the original source — this is consistent with standard RSS aggregation practice.
We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or availability of third-party websites. Clicking "Read full story" takes you away from Upside UK; those sites have their own terms and privacy policies.
Voting
You can upvote or downvote stories. Votes are anonymous — we do not know who you are. A random ID is stored in your browser's local storage to prevent duplicate votes. Votes are used to improve story curation and may be used to retrain our classifier. No personal information is ever attached to a vote.
Personal data
We do not collect, store, or process any personal data. We have no account system, no email list, and no way to identify you as an individual. For details on the minimal, anonymous analytics data we do collect through Simple Analytics, see our Privacy Policy.
As we do not hold personal data, the UK GDPR rights of access, erasure, and portability do not apply in practice — there is simply nothing to access, erase, or export that is linked to you.
Acceptable use
Please use Upside UK for its intended purpose — reading good news. You may not:
- Scrape or systematically download our content at scale
- Attempt to manipulate vote counts artificially
- Use the service in any way that could harm its availability for others
- Reproduce our AI-generated summaries commercially without permission
Disclaimer
Upside UK is provided "as is" and without warranty of any kind. We make no guarantees about the accuracy, completeness, or availability of the service. The AI classifier and summaries are automated — some stories may be miscategorised or summaries may contain errors.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Upside UK is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the service or reliance on its content.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
